After the murder of his father, a young lion prince named Simba flees his kingdom only to learn the true meaning of responsibility and bravery. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back his royal destiny on the plains of the African savanna.

The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon. This revised version of the original 1994 animated film utilizes pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring treasured characters to life in a whole new way.

Rated PG for sequences of violence and peril, and some thematic elements. Running time is 1 hour, 48 minutes. Show times for “The Lion King” are Friday, August 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 24 at 10:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. A sensory friendly viewing will take place on Saturday morning with open captions.

Movie admission: $4 for all ages and $2 for current 2019-2020 PCAA members presenting a valid membership card.

Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Storad Label, and the Autism Society of Central Ohio have partnered with the Palace Theatre to offer a Sensory Friendly movie going experience on Saturday, August 24 at 10:30 a.m. This special showing is open to any child, teen, and adult with special challenges and their friends and family. The sensory friendly movie will include brighter theatre lights than normal and the sound will be turned down. The audience will have the ability to get up and move about during the movie. Storad Label has pledged to cover the admission price for the first 50 people, while the Autism Society of Central Ohio will provide free popcorn and drinks to the first 25 people in attendance.
